In this short clip Sadie is working on loose leash walking, she can get quite overwhelmed by her surroundings which can lead to her snatching treats. By marking her walking by my side with a verbal 'Yes' and dropping the treat on the ground every couple of steps Sadie is having to slow down and think a little bit more about what she is doing. This can help excitable or worried dogs slow down a little as well as building the dog's food motivation by making the treat delivery a bit more interesting.
In this video Sasha is learning to generalise her 'sit' cue and respond to it from a 'drop' position. In this video we demonstrate using a food lure and a hand target to encourage Sasha into the sitting position. Once Sasha is reliably offering the sit behaviour from a drop position, we then add the verbal cue. It is important to add the verbal cue once the behaviour is already established as dogs are not english speakers, they don't understand what the word means! By adding the cue after the behaviour is developed the dog has an easier time perceiving that the behaviour should be in response to the cue.
Chloe and I just having some fun practising some of her tricks! Trick training is great for relationship building with your dog as well as building your dog's confidence. Some tricks are just a lot of fun and some can be really useful in everyday life!
